L.A.M.E. Tweet... because clever tweeting is hard!
Tweeting is tough work! It's no easy task to compose something deceptively humble, novel, and thoughtful in 140 characters or less, multiple times, each and every day. The most tweetable thoughts in my head usually range between some inhuman yearning for chocolate and whatever tawdry, everyday thing I'm running off to do. Does anyone really care if I'm about to eat a cheese sandwich? It depresses me how terrible a Tweeter I am. In fact, I should tweet that, because the presence of some alliteration makes it better than my typical, "Off to go camping. Wee!" attempts.
Alas, I have recently stumbled upon a secret that many Power Tweeters all seem privy too. When you have nothing better to tweet, spit out a song lyric! A song lyric seems to serve two primary purposes: (1) Provide evidentiary proof you know music and (2) Obfuscate what would otherwise be a crappy or attention seeking tweet. For example, a cleverly selected song lyric about heartache is much more sophisticated and deliciously passive aggressive than "I hope you get hit by a truck, jerk."
Now, one flaw with this approach, at least in my case, is that it requires knowledge of a large body of music lyrics, preferably obscure, and organized by topic. Sadly, I'm no music connoisseur. Don't get me wrong, I like music. I won't go so far as to say I like only "good" music because I do like the occasional radio song and don't have a handful of favorite local Indie bands to rave about, but I like what I like and am fine with that. I digress... given I don't have a tomb of songs and lyrics to generate tweets from, I did the next best thing: found an API (thanks chartlyrics.com!) and slapped together some PHP.
This page provides an interface to the Lyric AutoMatic Engine, which generates a Tweetable song lyric based on a keyword. If you aren't happy with the lyric it generated, you can generate another using the same keyword, or try a different keyword. If you think the results are tweet worthy, click the Twitter icon and you're done (mostly). With L.A.M.E. Tweet, you too can tweet with wit and musical savvy in 140 characters or less!
